About the ECA Foundation
The ECA Foundation was founded in 1999 as an independent not-for-profit organisation. It was set up to provide support to the Pharmaceutical Industry and Regulators to promote the move towards a harmonised set of GMP and regulatory guidelines by providing information and interpretation of new or updated guidances. Even with the transfer of the organisation to the ECA Foundation this mission remains the same. To accomplish it, the Foundation also seeks involvement in European Authorities' activities - and was added to the EMA's list of eligible industry stakeholder organisations.
Today the ECA Foundation comprises a number of so called interest and working groups. These groups focus on different GMP compliance aspects such as QP regulation, Validation, IT Compliance, Good Distribution Practice and other topics – and, e.g., provide good practice papers which are intended to help industry and authorities to implement GMP in an effective manner. In addition, the Foundation comprises the ECA Academy as its educational organisation. The Academy conducts a wealth of international education courses, webinars and conferences around GMP and regulatory compliance – picking up emerging GMP challenges and currently discussed subjects. While the courses and webinars are designed to discuss good practices in GMP implementation as well as to provide latest regulatory developments and continuous education for GMP professionals in production, quality control, quality assurance etc., European conferences are organised as discussion forums for discussing new trends and developments with regulatory representatives. With these courses, webinars and conference the ECA Academy supports the interest and working groups.
In order to support the goals of the ECA Academy individuals can become member of the ECA Academy. The ECA Foundation does not allow memberships - as it is the legal entity, which is headed by an Advisory Board. The Advisory Board (also called Foundation Board) consists of experts from industry and authorities. It is the aim of the Advisory Board to provide support for promoting the move toward a harmonized set of GMP and Regulatory Guidelines.
